Sukham Annam: Our Flagship Project

The Sukham Annam initiative of Kartavya Foundation was born from a moment of deep human empathy—Lalitendu Jena’s poignant encounter with a newspaper image of a father brushing ants off a chapati while caring for his sick child in a Cuttack hospital. What began as a quiet resolve to ease the struggles of caregivers has grown into one of Odisha’s most impactful humanitarian efforts. Today, Sukham Annam provides 2,000+ freshly cooked, hygienic, and coupon-linked free meals every day across SCB Medical College and Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre, offering dignity, nourishment, and relief to families who often sacrifice their own well-being while tending to loved ones. Powered by a solar-enabled kitchen, monitored for quality and hygiene, and driven by an unwavering commitment to serve even through curfews, cyclones, and overwhelming demand, the project stands as a testament to compassion in action. For countless caregivers—like the elderly husband who called the meals a blessing that felt like home—Sukham Annam has become not just food support, but a lifeline of comfort, dignity, and hope.

Relief during natural calamities:

During Cyclone Dana, our team stepped in to support caregivers and families at SCB Medical College, Cuttack with urgent food relief. Over two days, we served a total of 1,000 freshly cooked meals—far exceeding our usual capacity of 300 coupon and 150 non-coupon meals per day—by providing two meals daily to those in need. Additionally, on the day of landfall, we distributed 105 packets of dry food at very short notice, ensuring immediate support during the emergency.
